happn: dating app for Android

happn is a location-based dating app by happn that helps you connect with people you have already crossed paths with in real life. Instead of browsing a generic catalog of profiles, the app focuses on the faces and names you might have seen at a café, on your commute, or near your workplace. The idea is to turn those missed everyday moments into a chance to say hello.

The app works by showing you profiles of other happn users who have been in the same places as you, while keeping your exact location private. Only crossing points are shared, which means someone can see where your paths met but not where you are right now. When two people secretly like each other, it becomes a Crush and a chat opens up. Features such as Teasers, Hobbies, and the CrushTime guessing game are designed to make profiles feel more personal and playful than a simple photo grid.

Version 2026.20.0, released on October 15, 2026, brings new Hobbies to the app. These additions are meant to help users show off their true selves and match with people who share similar interests. The update arrived alongside the existing focus on everyday encounters, so the core experience remains centered on people you may have already seen around town.

Latest changes · 2026.21.1

Version 2026.20.0 introduces a new Hobbies feature. This update adds a selection of unique hobbies that users can display on their profiles, aiming to encourage connections based on shared interests. The feature is designed to help users express their personality more fully. The changelog references examples like "Early morning run" and "Bad Bunny," but the core functional change is the addition of these hobby options. No other major changes are mentioned. The update is dated 2026-10-15 and requires Android 8.0 or higher.

It suits people who want to date within their existing daily environment, especially those who spend time in busy urban areas. It is also a good fit for singles who feel more comfortable starting conversations after a mutual like, and for anyone curious about turning real-life encounters into matches without sharing their live location.

Use the app during your regular routine rather than waiting at home. Walking through busy areas, visiting the same café, or commuting at similar times increases the chance of crossing paths with other users. Adding a few hobbies can also help attract people who share your interests.

For people who want to turn everyday encounters into dating opportunities, happn is a thoughtful option. Its location-based approach works best in busy areas, and the free version gives a real sense of how it functions. The ads and limitations on free likes may push some users toward Premium, but the core idea remains distinctive and worth trying, especially for those new to dating apps.
